As a type 1 diabetic and an endurance athlete, food forms a very important part of my life. As a type 1 diabetic I have to think about everything that I eat to get my insulin doses right and as an endurance athlete I need to think about what I eat to make sure I’ve got enough energy to train, race and recover. I am not a nutritionist or a dietician, though I have spent many sessions working on my nutrition plans with them.  My understanding of nutrition has come for 20 years as a diabetic and 10 years competing in endurance events. My nutrition information comes from these experiences both positive and negative and the outcomes I’ve seen from trying different types of nutrition plans to balance my needs as an athlete and a diabetic.

This nutrition page will include straight forward reviews of products I use, simple recipes which meet my dietary requirements and basic nutrition information which I’ve sourced from the professionals I work with. The focus will be on the benefits to type 1 diabetics but as a healthy guide they can work for anyone.
